Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah was presented the award for Most Luxurious Historical Hotel at the “World Luxury Hotel Awards 2014; one of the most prestigious international awards of the tourism sector. It is said that Agatha Christie, who created Poirot, one of literature’s most unforgettable characters and succeeded in wrapping her private life in a cloak of secrets, frequently stayed at Pera Palace. Furthermore, Christie’s mysterious disappearance was allegedly related to the hotel. In 1926, her car was found to have crashed into a tree by a lake but Agatha could not be found anywhere. For a while, it was thought that she had committed suicide by throwing herself into the lake. She was getting a divorce at the time and there were rumors that she was planning to murder her husband. Worries and rumors escalated and eleven days after her disappearance she reappeared., claiming that she could not recall anything.
However, rumor has it, during her disappearance Agatha had stayed at Pera Palace and the mystery of her disappearance was hidden at the hotel. Whatever the truth, there is a room at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeriah named after Agatha Christie. Five luxurious suits of the hotel are named after well-known author Ernest Hemingway.
